Greenbrier, AR
The city of Greenbrier, AR, is part of Faulkner County, located 12 miles north of Conway along Highway 65. Named for vines that grew along a local creek, Greenbrier today covers almost eight square miles of land with a population approaching 5,600 people.
Settlers had come to the vicinity as early as 1818. The community’s first post office was established in 1857, and Greenbrier was incorporated as a town in 1880 with about 300 people. After the onset of the Great Depression, by 1935 the New Deal brought employment opportunities to Greenbrier that provided the town with new life. Small businesses today continue to support the local economy. Greenbrier has grown into a bedroom community for Conway under the motto, “The place to live, learn, work and play.”
