The city of Conway, AR, serves as the seat of Faulkner County and makes up part of the Central Arkansas region, 30 miles north of Little Rock. Founded in 1872 and incorporated in 1875, Conway today covers 46 square miles of land with a population of roughly 66,000 people.
More than 100 German families had settled in Conway by the late 19th century, giving the town many of its German names. Now as home to three post-secondary educational institutions, Conway has earned the nickname “The City of Colleges.” Historic Downtown Conway has been revitalized since 2000 with new retail, office, restaurant and residential construction. One of the city’s largest annual events, Toad Suck Daze, is a three-day community festival held since 1982. Conway is also a popular sport-fishing destination.
